Guidelines for NIC employees who have received approval to use NIC hardware to work remotely

The use of NIC monitors and docking stations in addition to NIC laptops is subject to the following conditions:

  • NIC Information Technology is unable to guarantee the setup of your hardware at home.
  • NIC Information Technology will not be travelling to remote work locations to provide physical support of any equipment.
  • Users experiencing hardware issues for NIC owned devices must come to main campus to have those issues resolved.
  • NIC Information Technology can provide remote support for software issues if users have high speed internet and the operating system is working.
  • The user may be personally liable for any damages that occur to the NIC owned technology while working remotely.
  • The user is responsible for disconnecting and safely transporting any hardware they have received approval to use for remote work.

If a user requires the use of a monitor or docking station, the following guidelines may help you:

  • Use your phone to take pictures of your current setup so you have a reference to follow when you set up the system at a remote location.
  • Consider using masking tape and labels to identify what cords/plugs go where.This will help you reconnect things later.
  • Do not forget your power supplies and cords.
  • Remember to plug it in.

NIC is NOT allowing any additional NIC owned hardware to be used at home at this time, this includes:

  • Computer towers
  • Document cameras
  • Smart Podiums
  • Printers
  • Copiers
  • Document scanners
  • Phones
  • Desks/chairs or other office furniture

Please note:  Webcams, microphones, and other peripheral devices (i.e. keyboard and mouse) may be taken home as well.

Due to the COVID-19 issue nationally, supplies are currently short on microphones and webcams.  NIC IT is continuing to search for and order these supplies.
