Cisco AnyConnect VPN is a service that allows you to connect to campus resources such as H Drive, U Drive and CROA.  VPN should only be installed on NIC computers and requires supervisor approval.

VPN Remote Access Using Cisco AnyConnect

STEP 1:  Download and save the NIC VPN file to your computer (filename = AnyconnectPC2021).  Note:  You can download this file here or you can contact the IT Help Desk at 208-769-3280 for assistance. If you download the file from Box, click Continue to sign in, and click Download to download the installer.
STEP 2:  Find the downloaded file and double-click on it to run the installation.  Note:  Depending on your browser the file may auto run.
STEP 3:  When the installation window appears, choose Next.
STEP 4:  Accept the license agreement, click Next.
STEP 5:  Click Install.
STEP 6:  Click Yes if prompted.
STEP 7:  Wait while AnyConnect installs, then click Finish.
STEP 8:  Go to your list of programs on your computer.  Find and open the Cisco AnyConnect Secure Mobility application. Enter vpn.nic.edu into the box (if not already entered) and click Connect.
STEP 9:  When prompted, enter your NIC username and password.  Click OK.
STEP 10:  Once the VPN client establishes a connection, the client minimizes back into the system tray and says Connected.
STEP 11:  To disconnect VPN, click once on the AnyConnect icon in the system tray to bring up the client. Click Disconnect.

  • Once connected, all network traffic for your computer will be routed through NIC.  The connection is nearly identical to being connected to the campus network on your desktop.

  • After 30 minutes of inactivity the connection will drop and your computer's connection will return to normal.
