NIC provides Mac users the ability to access network drives from on and off campus. To map a drive on campus, proceed to Step #1. To map a drive off campus, VPN must be installed and setup on your computer. If you do not have VPN installed you can access the VPN instructions from our IT Help Desk web site here

  1. From the Desktop, ensure you can see the Finder menu (across the top).
  2. Choose:  Go > Connect to Server… (or CMD+K)
  3. Type in the server address (see below list):
    • For a user’s U drive:   smb://vault.nic.edu/user/username
    • For a department drive (H):  smb://vault.nic.edu/dept
    • For the temporary drive:  smb://vault.nic.edu/temp
    • For Course Content:  smb://coursecontent.nic.edu/nic/username
      • *where username is your MyNIC username
  4. Once you type in the server address, hit the + button to add it to your Favorites Servers.
  5. Once you have all drives added then choose the drive you want to connect to and click Connect.
  6. You will receive a login box.
  7. Login with your MyNIC credentials and click Connect.
  8. The drive will mount to the desktop on the right-hand side.
  9. Repeat Step #6  to connect to each drive.
    • Note: The login box will only appear the first time you connect to a drive.  You will need to reconnect and login to each drive if you reboot or log off your machine.
