NIC Network Account

Your NIC network account provides you access to:

•    NIC Network
•    Campus computers
•    MyNIC Portal
•    Cardinal Email
•    Canvas
•    Faculty Web Calendar

To obtain your Username and set your Password for the first time, click the New Students and Employees… Start Here button on the following page: http://www.nic.edu/mynic/

To login, enter your MyNIC credentials at the login screen on any campus computer.

Duo

When you sign into your MyNIC you will be prompted to enroll in Duo.  To better protect sensitive information, North Idaho College uses Duo two-factor authentication for all students and employees accessing MyNIC, Canvas and other NIC services from non-NIC locations.  Duo guards NIC accounts by using a second device (e.g. cell phone) to confirm a login attempt is legitimate. Please see the Duo knowledge base article for additional information. 

MyNIC Portal

Your MyNIC account provides you access to:

•    Time entry/pay advices/check stubs
•    Canvas
•    NIC Email
•    Campus documents
•    Colleague UI
•    CROA
•    Department Team Sites
•    Bookmarks
•    25Live

1.    To access your MyNIC account, go to https://my.nic.edu.
2.    Enter your MyNIC credentials and click Sign In.

Cardinal Mail

 You can access NIC email using one of the following:

  • Outlook 2021
    • Open Outlook on any campus computer to access your email
  • Online at mail.nic.edu
    • Login with your MyNIC credentials
  • MyNIC Portal at https://my.nic.edu
    • Click on the Cardinal Mail button

You have two email addresses (aliases) that work at NIC:

•    username@nic.edu
•    firstname.lastname@nic.edu

Office 365

Office 365 provides you online access to the following:

•    Email
•    Calendar
•    Contacts
•    Word
•    Excel
•    PowerPoint
•    OneNote
•    OneDrive
•    Microsoft Office Install

To access Office 365:

1.    Login to your MyNIC account at https://my.nic.edu
2.    Click on Cardinal Mail
3.    Outlook online will open.
4.    Click the App Launcher to access Office 365 apps

Network Storage

•    User on ‘Vault’ (U:) – a place to save files that is secure and only you have access. Storage quota is 5 GB.
•    Dept on ‘Vault’ (H:) – place to save files where all department members can access the files. Storage quota is 10 GB.
•    Temp on ‘Vault’ (T:) –  not secure, all campus employees and students can view/edit/delete any file/folder.
•    OneDrive – a place to save files that is secure and only you have access. This storage is online and is accessible anywhere you have Internet. You can also share  files/folders with other NIC employees or students. Storage quota is 1TB (1,024GB).

NIC Cardinal Wi-Fi

NIC Students/Faculty/Staff:

•    Choose the NIC-Cardinal-Wifi network.
•    When prompted, enter your MyNIC credentials.

Guests:

•    Choose the NIC-Public-WiFi network
•    Open a web browser.
•    Read the agreement and click ‘Continue to the Internet.’


NIC Directory

You have the ability to update your online directory and schedule information via the Faculty Web Calendar. 

Login to the Faculty Web Calendar

1.    Login to the Faculty Web Calendar at https://nic.edu/facultycalendar/ by clicking on Sign In: Microsoft and using your NIC email address and NIC password.

Directory Information

1.    Click on Personal Directory Information.
2.    Fill in the Employee Information and click Update.
3.    To add, edit, or delete degrees, click Edit Degrees. Fill in degree information.  Click Add for additional entries. Click Edit to edit current degrees.

Schedule

The faculty web form allows you to publish your hours to the directory calendar. Calendars will only appear on the directory pages for Faculty members who are flagged as active in Colleague and have been assigned courses.  Your class schedule will automatically be shown on your directory calendar.  However, here are some examples of additional items to add to your faculty calendar:

  • Office Hours
  • Lab Hours
  • On Campus Availability

To add an event to your schedule, fill out the form:

  1. Under Submitter Information, fill out:
    • (Optional) Phone Number
  2. Under Event Information, fill out:
    • Event Title
    • (Optional) Location
    • Start Date
    • Check All Day or enter your Start time and Duration
    • Choose if your event will repeat and fill out the corresponding information
    • (Optional) Enter a Web Link
    • (Optional) Enter a Description
  3. Click Next
  4. Review your information.  Click Back to make any edits or click Submit if the information is correct.
  5. You can click My Submissions to track your submitted events or click Submit Another Event

Once complete, you will receive a confirmation email.  The confirmation email allows you to withdraw the event or go to your submissions to track or cancel your events. 

Canvas

Canvas is our current Learning Management System (LMS) for online coursework. 

To access Canvas:

•    Login to your MyNIC account and click on the Canvas button.
•    To go directly to Canvas at https://nic.instructure.com/ and login with your MyNIC credentials.

General Information:

•    We are currently using Concourse for all course Syllabi.
•    If you would like to request an online course template, contact eLearning.
•    If you would like to merge courses or copy a course, contact eLearning or click here fill out the corresponding online form.
•    For attendance policies, for Internet and hybrid courses, please check with your department.
•    For proctored test information, contact the Testing Center at ext. 7203 or 208-676-7203.

Concourse Syllabus

Edit Syllabus from Canvas

1.    Go to Canvas and sign in with your MyNIC credentials
2.    Navigate to the Canvas course containing the syllabus you would like to edit.
3.    In the main Course Navigation Menu, select NIC Syllabus.
4.    Click the Syllabus link in the Concourse menu and highlight Edit.
5.    Select the Edit icon   next to the fields you want to include in your syllabus (Materials, Schedule, Assessment, etc.), then use the Plus buttons to add subsections (such as Contact Entry, Book, Office Hours, etc.).
Note: The Plus subsections will not appear as options until you've added the section to the syllabus.  

Note: Do not copy text from Microsoft Word directly into Concourse. This will cause numerous formatting errors. Instead, copy the text from Word into a Notepad or a TextEdit document. This removes the document’s special formatting. You can then copy your information into Concourse and reformat the material using Concourse’s bullet, number, and indent tools.

Edit Syllabus from Concourse

1.    Go to Concourse and sign in with your MyNIC username and password.
2.    Choose the course you for which you would like to edit the syllabus.
3.    Once the syllabus is open, select the Syllabus link in the menu and click Edit.

Import Previous Semester Syllabus

If you already created the same material on a previous semester’s syllabus or other section’s syllabus, use the “Import” feature to import that material forward into your new syllabus.

1.    From Concourse, navigate to the syllabus you would like to import (see above on logging into Concourse).
2.    Click the Syllabus link in the Concourse menu and highlight Import.
3.    Search for the syllabus containing the information you would like to copy into your new syllabus (try using the course code and number and your last name to search). Select the Import button next to the syllabus you would like to copy information from.
4.    Select the items you wish to copy and click Next.
